The excavator slewing ring (also called swing bearing) is a core component that connects the upper structure (cab, engine, etc.) with the undercarriage (track frame), enabling 360° unlimited rotation. Manufactured from high-strength alloy steel, it withstands enormous axial, radial, and moment loads.
Lubrication
Use ISO VG 150–220 grease (e.g., Mobilith SHC 460).
Interval: Every 500 operating hours (varies by manufacturer).
Inspection Checklist
Check seal integrity.
Monitor grease for metal particles (indicates wear).
Measure gear backlash (should be <0.3mm).
Disassembly
Secure the excavator on a flat surface.
Remove upper structure bolts (typically M24–M36).
Lift the house using a crane.
Installation
Clean mating surfaces.
Torque bolts in a star pattern (preload: 70% of yield strength).
Prime lubrication system.
Tool Requirements:
Hydraulic torque wrench.
Dial indicator (for gear alignment).
